Track and field hold home opening meets

The IVC boys track and field team opened its outdoor season at home with a meet against Richwoods April 1.

“I thought we did pretty well over all. We just don’t have the numbers to do real well as a dual team. I thought our kids ran well and competed pretty well,” coach Dennis Fraikes said.

Running for IVC in the 4x100 meter relay was Alec McElyea, Luke Patty, Robbie Hunt and Kelly Noetzel at 46.34.

In the 4x200, Patty, Alec Boub, Hunt and Noetzol at 1:38.9.

Matt Keffeler led IVC in the 400 at 56.26, followed by Riley Beard at 58.88, and in the high jump at 5-feet-6-inches. 

Anton Sturgeon was the lone runner for IVC in the 3200 to finish at 12:26.3. Sturgeon led the Grey Ghosts in the 1600 at 5:48 with Ethan Sutherland behind at 6:03.

Noetzel led IVC in the 100 at 11.66 with Patty behind at 12.16. 

Logan Hoffman was the leader in the 800 at 2:25 with Noah Gould 

following at 2:26.

In the discuss, Jordan Ladd threw for 122-02 and Aaron Kirchner led IVC in shot put at 35-04.5.

“(Ladd’s) getting better. He’s switching to spinning with the shot and the discuss. We’re hoping he’ll throw about 140 in the discus this year,” Fraikes said.

McElyea was the lone Grey Ghost in the long jump, 18-02, and triple jump, 36-10.

The next home meet for the boys will be at 4 p.m. Friday with Dunlap.

We’re pretty young and hopefully keep improving,” Fraikes said. “Hopefully we’ll keep improving and getting better with every meet.”

Wethersfield 69, Eureka 61, IVC 37, Princeville 18

The Lady Grey Ghosts opened its outdoor season by hosting Wethersfield, Eureka and Princeville Thursday.

IVC came in third for the day but was able to earn first in five events.

Hannah Scherer earned first in the shot put with a throw of 34-02 and first in the discuss at 86-01.

In the high jump, Emma Stewart took first at 4-10.

Madi Horack received fourth in the pole vault at 7-06.

Alexis Eckhoff ran for first in the 100 at 14.04 and Taylor White came in third at 14.32.

Katherine Schneider ran for second in the 1600 at 6:03.09.
