IVC senior Alex Hamilton swoops past Bloomington Central Catholic in the Senior Night match Sept. 30. The Grey Ghosts finished with a draw to the visiting Saints.

For its Senior Night match, the IVC varsity soccer team tied with visiting Bloomington Central Catholic.

At halftime, seniors Kyle Wendland, Matt Keffeler, Jack Mellen, TJ Blackaby, Alex Hamilton, Damen Cokel, Zach Benefield, Elijah Repke and Travis Spencer were honored in front of the crowd with their parents.

During the match, IVC’s offensive attack and two shots off the cross bar weren’t enough to get past the BCC goalkeeper.

It looked good out there. Some of the boys have been doing things that we’ve been working on,” coach Nolan Wilson said.

“We’re starting to look like a real team now. We just have to find a way to pull it out.”

The Saints were able to get one in the back of IVC’s net with two minutes left in the match, but a foul was called just before the kick to recall the goal.

Blackaby was in the net for the first BCC offensive attack and had three saves.

The Grey Ghosts then put offensive pressure on the Saints.

IVC’s junior Alex Bradley closed out the first half with a charge through BCC defenders, but was met by the Saints goalkeeper to stop the drive.

In the second, BCC started with an attack, but IVC regained control. A header attempt by Mellen was saved and Keffeler’s charge through the goal box was stopped just a minute later.

Keffeler then had a shot that hit the top cross bar after a drive from midfield in the 64th minute.

“I think our goals are a little too small,” Wilson said. “They were good strikes, but credit to their defense. They would position themselves to block the shots. Their goalie was quick on their feet so we couldn’t get anything by them.”

IVC had three other scoring opportunites before the final buzzer, but failed to get past the quick BCC goalkeeper.

IVC outshot on goal BCC, 7-5.

The match with Metamora Thursday was canceled due to lightning with no reschedule date posted. The LaSalle-Peru match was also canceled.
