IVC soccer prepares for Regional

Illinois Valley Central's soccer team is preparing to battle Dunlap in the opening game of the Regional.

The team has been going through a practice regimen since playing the final of the season against Morton, Oct. 6, at home in a 4-0 loss.

"Practice has been good," coach Nizam Wadi said. "It has been a good week. One of the things we have worked on is healing the injuries the players have got the last few weeks of the season. We have also been able to revisit the loss to Dunlap and see what went wrong. We were also able to work on our defense. Hopefully that will help us Wednesday night."

The team lost to Dunlap Sept. 13 at home, 4-0.

"We have to stop them right off the get-go," Wadi said. "Last time, they brought it to us at the start of the game and then right after halftime, so we have to be ready from the get-go."

For the Dunlap game, the team will be getting extra help on defense.

"We have added one more player on defense, Conner Bogner, to strengthen our center midfield," Wadi said. "Hopefully that will give us some initial force that will give us momentum.

With his speed and skill, he should be a great boost for us on defense."

The team next plays at 7 p.m. Wednesday at home in the Regional against Dunlap.

The team will need to continue to use the strong offensive play that has helped make IVC a high scoring team this season in order to win the opening round.
