Golfers falls to Dunlap, trumps Central in non-conference duals

The IVC varsity golf team is making strides on the course. The golfers are now 3-2 for the season in duals.

Titan Invitational

The Grey Ghosts were in Monmouth Aug. 30 for the Titan Invitational and received 17th place with a 373 out of 20 teams.

Jarom Hutson was in the No. 1 spot for IVC and marked a 79 after 18. 

“The tough thing for him is to stay away from those big holes, because he’s been playing some real solid golf,” coach Jim Thornton.

Mason Ely followed with a 91 and Isaac Cain marked a 100 on the card.

Jared Brabant finished with a 103. Matt Stoecker was in with a 109 and Kaylie McCullough rounded up for IVC with a 111.

 Dunlap 150, IVC 178

The Grey Ghosts fell in a dual against Dunlap, 150-178, Sept. 3 at home course Arrowhead Country Club.

Leading IVC was Hutson with a 40 after the front nine. Ely was right behind with a 41.

John Seele marked a 48 with Stoecker finishing just behind with a 49. 

Brabant finished with a 52 and Cain closed up with a 57.

The JV squad was also outshot, 183-217 against the Eagles.

Seth Smith marked a 50, Damon Clay finished with a 51 and Cole Yetton marked a 52.

Ellen Carpenter finished the day with a 64.

“(Carpenter’s) going to be pretty good. She has to play just like (McCullough), from the men’s tees right now. In the post season, she’ll play from the ladies’ tees, so that’ll help,” Thornton said.

 IVC 169, Central 231

Against Central Thursday at the front nine of Newman in Peoria, the Grey Ghosts pulled out a win, 169-231.

Hutson and Ely both marked 39s after nine holes. Stoecker closed up with a 44 and Cain followed with a 47.

Seele had a 49 and Brabant finished marking a 50.
