Illinois Valley Central's golf team struggled to start the week and lost to East Peoria, 162-170, at Arrowhead Country Club Sept. 25.

"That was our best nine-hole match score of the year," coach Jim Thornton said. "East Peoria is a really good team and has been all year. I thought we played OK."

Justin Brabant had a 37 for the day and was followed by a 42 from Jarom Hutson.

Mason Ely shot 45 and Bryce Mack finished the team's top four with a 46.

Not counting were McGwire Hidden's 46 and Bryce Fislar's 54.

The team finished third in the North Central Illinois Conference meet Sept. 26 at St. Bede.

"We actually played the front nine pretty well," Thornton said. "Our front nine score was really good, but then our guys struggled on the back nine.

"We didn't shoot well on the back nine and struggled there. That hurt us."

IVC shot 349, trailing Princeton's 326 and St. Bede's 341.

Hutson led the Ghosts with 80 and was followed by Brabant's 84.

Fislar came in at 92 and Ely shot 93.

Hidden finished at 94 and Mack had a 105.

The team was scheduled to play in the Metamora Regional Tuesday.

"Our Regional is really tough," Thornton said. "There are a lot of good teams in it. It will be difficult and quite of a challenge for any of our individuals to get out. It's not that we don't have guys who can't advance, but they are going to have to shoot a great score."

The team squared off in the Regional against Dunlap, Geneseo, Metamora, Peoria High School, Peoria Notre Dame, Rock Island, Streator and Washington.
