Lance Brooks, former Millikin University standout, will return March 23 to the Griswold Physical Education Center in Decatur to instruct athletes in eighth grade and above on the techniques of throwing the shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and triple jump.

In 2013, Brooks was ranked No. 1 in the United States and 31st in the world in the discus.

He won the 2013 national track and field meet to earn a spot on the World Championship team and compete in Moscow.

Brooks will be joined by two other Olympians — Christian Cantwell, shot put (2008 Silver medal winner) and Jamie Nieto, two-time Olympic high jumper.

The clinic will begin at 9 a.m. and end at about 5:30 p.m.  Registration will be available online at lancebrooksolympics.com. Topics discussed during this clinic will be: weight-room training, throwing technique, drills and nutrition. There also will be a question-and-answer session with the Olympians.

This is a hands-on clinic and, weather permitting, some of the clinic will be outdoors.

The clinic will be open to all athletes in eighth grade through college in accordance with Illinois High School Association, Illinois Elementary School Association and college guidelines.

The fee is $80 for athletes and $100 for participating parents and coaches for on-line registration. The cost is an extra $10 at the door. The fees include instruction, participant T-shirt and lunch in the campus dining facility.
