IVC senior Reilly Owens looks for an open player against Richwoods earlier this season. The Grey Ghosts (17-8) will face the Knights (14-11) again in IVC’s first game of the Metamora Regional Wednesday.

The Grey Ghosts are now heading into post-season action with its first game at the Metamora Regional against Richwoods Wednesday.

“We just told our kids, ‘When everybody comes in you’ve got a brand new record, everything’s wiped clean’,” coach Joe Mintus said.

The Knights finished the regular season 14-11 and 4-2 in the Mid-State 6 Conference.

Its last regular season game was against Central for a 59-54 win.

IVC first faced Richwoods Jan. 31, which resulted in a 46-32 loss.

“We didn’t play against Richwoods very good at their place last time,” Mintus said.

Richwood’s veteran team consists of six seniors and three juniors for the IVC defense to handle but it was two sophomores who led in scoring for the Knights at the Jan. 31 game.

Richwood’s tallest center is sophomore Ashten Bean, standing at 6-feet, 7-inches. He posted 10 points against IVC. Sophomore Kaelen Johnson contributed 13.

In the 2012-13 season, Richwoods was placed in the 4A regional pitted against Pekin in the first game. Pekin came out on top, 51-46.

The Knights won its way to the regional semifinal in the 2011-12 season but lost in the championship game to Central, 75-62.

In the 2012-13 season, IVC won its first game in the regional action against Dunlap, 40-36, but lost to Metamora, 58-34.

“We have strong seniors and I’d put them against anybody.  (We) just have to control the ball and the tempo and I think we’ll be in good shape,” Mintus said.

“We’ve had some really good practices. Were still trying to get a little better. At this time of the year there’s still some things to get better at.”

IVC finished the regular season 17-8.
