Illinois Valley Central soccer coach Pat Sell was inducted into the Peoria Soccer Hall of Fame Nov. 7 during the 4KICKS/Sport Verein Senior Boys Soccer All-Star Game.

“It was a great honor,” Sell said. “I’m the third member of my family to be inducted. I have three older brothers and the only reason I’m not the fourth inducted is that my one brother, who was probably the best soccer player, isn’t still involved with soccer.

“I was very fortunate to have three older brothers to help me along, and to have always had great coaches and players around me throughout my career.”

Sell was the co-coach for the Mid-State 6/Independents team.

Alex Bernardi, Brendan Butler, and Sameer Al-Khenaizi all played for Sell’s squad, which won 3-0 over the Mid-Illini team.

“It’s something that’s been going on for 14 seasons,” Sell said. “It is made up of the best senior players in the area, so for us to have three guys make it was a great honor.”
