The Illinois Valley Central golf team took two out of three matches last week.

The team started by downing Fieldcrest at Arrowhead Country Club Sept. 13.

Tyler Myers led the team with a spectacular round of 39.

Spencer Youngman followed Myers with a 40, as did Ryan Wargo. Daniel Heinz came in with a 46 and Mason Ely had a 47. Justin Brabant finished the day with a 48.

IVC won, 165-172.

The team headed to Limestone Sept. 14 and fell to the Rockets, 163-183.

“We didn’t have anybody play particularly well,” coach Jim Thornton said. “They have a really good team and they just outshot us. We shot one of the worst scores we have all year.”

Myers again led the squad, this time with a score of 43.

Youngman shot a 45 for the day and was followed by a 46 from Brabant.

Ely, Wargo and Heinz all finished the day with a 49.

The team closed the week by beating Brimfield on the road Thursday.

Wargo took the lead this time by finishing with a 41 and was followed by Brabant’s 43. Myers ended the match with a 44 and Youngman with a 45. Both Heinz and Ely had a 48 for the day.

The teams were tied at 173 after the match, but IVC won on the sixth-place score tiebreaker.

IVC next golfs at 1 p.m. Thursday at Pontiac.

“I think we have played fairly well in our dual meets so far but we have struggled in 18-hole tournaments,” Thornton said. “That’s not what you want because the Regional is an 18-hole tournament.

“We have two 18-hole tournaments left for us before the Regional starts to get ready for it.”
