The Illinois Valley Central softball team headed to Peoria Notre Dame Wednesday and racked up the week’s first win, 11-0.

“We came out and scored four runs in each of the first two innings,” coach Mike Berchtold said. “We had a really good performance.”

Jenna Noland took the mound and garnered the win by striking out eight batters through the first three innings.

Amy Berchtold charged the Ghost offense by going four-for-five from the plate, including a double, a triple and five RBIs.

Marci Fletcher drove in three runs for the game and Hannah McCorkle cracked three hits, including two RBIs.

The Ghosts headed to St. Bede Wednesday and won the North Central Illinois Conference matchup, 8-3.

Noland won her fifth game of the season by striking out seven batters and walking none.

In the third inning, Fletcher belted a homerun that also scored Kathleen Gauwitz, followed by a solo-homerun from Berchtold.

The team hosted a doubleheader against Metamora Friday in a doubleheader that was later televised on Mediacom channel 22.

“That was a great game,” Berchtold said. “It would have been nice to win one of the games but, for the team to go out and put up such a good effort against such a good team is all that I can ask for as a coach.”

The best offensive effort for the Ghosts came when Grace Gould cracked a triple.

“Grace went and got a second opinion on her fingers last week and the doctors told her they weren’t broken,” Berchtold said.

Metamora also won the second game, 6-5.

The team scored in the first inning when Pearson hit a double that sent Berchtold around to score.

Fletcher helped the Ghosts’ cause by smacking two hits and driving in two runs.

The team (8-3) next plays at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Princeton.
