The Illinois Valley Central cross-country team ended their season at Regional Saturday, with only Ryan Greskoviak moving on to Sectional with a time of 17:10.

“The top five teams and the top five individuals not on an advancing team advances to the Sectional meet,” coach Mike Themas said. “Ryan was a qualifying individual.”

The boys team ran hard and showed determination to place seventh out of 14 teams.

“I was pleased with the way the boys ran,” Themas said. “Ryan and Joe PowerWayvon ran very well for us.

“Our top five runners were four sophomores and one freshman.

“We have a lot of potential for the future.”

The girls team came in sixth.

“The meet was delayed two hours due to lightning,” Themas said. “We had three girls up at 3:30 a.m. to march with the band at 7 a.m. and then they had to come here to run.

“Our top five girls ran in a nice pack, but were a little too far back.

“I thought Liz Wilford had her best meet of the season.

“Our top five girls should be returning next year.”

Greskoviak races at 11:15 a.m. Saturday at Elmwood.

If Greskoviak qualifies for the State meet Saturday, he will then race on Saturday, Nov. 6 at Detweiller Park in Peoria.
