After a long and successful season, the Illinois Valley Central golf team fell in the Sectional Monday.

“Our season was certainly a success,” coach Jim Thornton said. “Our nine-hole match average was good and our tournaments were good.”

Alex Koch shot an 82 for the Ghosts at Havana and Tyler Myers followed with an 86.

Glenn Maxey ended the day with an 88, as did Spencer Youngman.

To get to the Sectional, the Ghosts first finished second in the Glasford Regional Oct. 7.

Maxey led the team at Regional with a 78 and was followed by Koch’s 80.

Myers shot an 83.

“We had a really good top three scores but we weren’t able to get that fourth score to overcome Peoria Christian and finish first,” Thornton said.

The team earned their way to the Regional by winning the North Central Illinois Conference tournament at Princeton Sept. 30.

“We went into the conference tournament tied with Princeton and knew that we would have to play a tough match to beat them,” Thornton said. “Our guys went out and had their best tournament of the year. It was a great win for us overall.”

For their performances, Maxey and Koch were named first team all-conference.

“They were consistent all year long,” Thornton said. “I don’t think either of them shot a bad score all year long. They’ve put in a lot of hard work over the season. That showed up in their performances in the conference tournament and in making the all-conference team.”

IVC shot 315 in the conference tournament.
