With the season nearing an end, the Grey Ghost football team knows that it’s entering crunch time.

“We have three games left and we need to win two to get into the playoffs,” coach Tim Heinz said.

Last week, the Ghosts blew past Springfield Lanphier on the road, 42-28.

The week before, the team put up a 28-14 victory at North Central Illinois Conference rival Rock Falls.

With two big victories, it’s clear that the Ghosts are playing their best football of the season, and doing it at a crucial time.

IVC will need to continue their streak Friday when they head to take on conference rival Princeton.

Quarterback Brock Adcock will need to continue effectively hitting wideout Trever Black and tight end Sherrarr Tate to take pressure off the ground game.

“We have to control the line of scrimmage and move the ball with our running game,” Heinz said. “They have good linebackers and good coverage.”

Running backs Jake Innis and Dan Semtner will again be called on to churn out tough yards on the ground to not only move the ball, but eat time off the clock.

“We have to mix up our play calling,” Heinz said.

Defensively, Rick Perham needs to continue disrupting opposing offenses by blowing past the offensive line and putting pressure on the quarterback.

“They have an explosive quarterback that is also a slashing runner,” Heinz said. “Our defensive line needs to control the line of scrimmage.”

The Ghosts play at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Princeton.

“Every game is crucial,” Heinz said. “We told the kids to look at this week as if it’s a playoff game.”
