IVC Football Week 6: IVC vs. Springfield Lanphier
One week after beating Rock Falls, the Illinois Valley Central Grey Ghosts are looking to put together their second win streak of the year when they head to Springfield Lanphier.
The Ghosts started the North Central Illinois Conference season two weeks ago when they lost to Mendota at home.
Last week, the Ghosts made the long trip to Rock Falls and pulled off a 28-14 win.
The Ghost offense effectively ran the ball with Dan Semtner and Jake Innis, and quarterback Brock Adcock completed two touchdown passes, one to Trever Black and one to Sherrarr Tate.
This week, the Ghosts will need to bring their A-game on both offense and defense as they take on a tough Springfield Lanphier team.
Adcock will again need to find his receivers this week so that the Springfield defense does not just key in on Semtner and the running backs.
“Defensively, they play a lot of zone with a little bit of man coverage,” coach Tim Heinz said. “They have good speed at the skill positions too.
“We’ll need to control the line of scrimmage so that we can get our play action working.”
The Ghost defense will have its hands full with a talented offense.
“They primarily run the ball out of shotgun but they do mix a few passes in there,” Heinz said. “They have a good receiver who makes plays and can run with the ball when he gets room.”
The Ghosts play at 7 p.m. Friday at Springfield Lanphier.
