Freshmen clinch title
Putting all their skills together, the Illinois Valley Central High School freshman girls basketball team now can claim they are the champions of the North Central Illinois Conference-Lincoln Division.
With an impressive record, IVC fell to Stark County Jan. 27, 56-48.
“We got behind 12-0 and never caught them,” said coach Alex Razo. “The effort was outstanding, but the start was terrible.”
Audra Storm led the Lady Ghosts with 17 points.
On Feb. 2, IVC took control over conference foe Kewanee for a 56-32 win.
“The girls played very well,” said Razo. “Being able to score 56 points without any threes is good offense.”
Jenna Noland led the team with 15 points, and Emma Hoerr (14) and Bethany Thompson (10) also reached double figures.
Rock Falls was next to get clobbered by IVC Thursday, 53-13.
“The girls did a good job against a weak team,” said Razo.
Noland topped scoring with 12 points.
On Saturday, the girls became the conference champions with a record of 9-0.
The team beat Princeton, 50-39, and snatched the title.
Hoerr played big for the Lady Ghosts, scoring 22 points, including 12 free throws. Storm also contributed to the win with 14 points.
“The girls played a great game!” Razo said.
