Both the Illinois Valley Central girls’ and boys’ cross country teams defeated Kewanee Thursday at Kewanee. The Kewanee girls did not have a full team, and the boys won, 44 to Kewanee’s 58.

Against Spring Valley Hall, the girls won,  21-39, but the boys lost, 44-26.

“Our girls continue to run in a pack, which scores well as a team,” said coach Mike Themas.

“Today’s meet was hot and the course was very hilly. We didn’t run especially well. I expect to do better Saturday when we run this same course again.

“Cecily Stedwill continues to improve, as she finished second for us and third overall (24:02).

“Tawnie McGann is moving up and finished third for us and fourth overall (24:15). Kelsey Thornton (24:43) and Rachel Wargo (24:52) were the only two who had personal records for this course.

“The boys are beginning to pack it together and are getting better. It was good to run against conference schools, Kewanee and Hall. We now have some idea what we will face later on at the conference meet.”
