Staff reports

The Lady Mustangs (26-1) faced Shelbyville Moulton (16-3) for third place in the State volleyball tournament last night.

In the first round of the State Tournament in Assumption Saturday, CJH defeated Illini Bluffs, 25-13, 25-14.

“This was our third time to play Illini Bluffs, and the girls did a good job,” said coach Sara Kinney. “They had many spiking opportunities and took advantage of them.”

Emily Bartlett had seven kills and Caitlyn Hunt, who led scoring with eight points, also had eight assists.

Deer Creek-Mackinaw took over in the second State game, beating CJH 25-21, 24-26, 12-25.

“The girls played well in game one,” said Kinney. “They had many spiking opportunities. They were unable to carry that through games two and three. They were working hard, but had difficulty against a strong-hitting Dee Mack team.”

Erika Koch led scoring with 10 points. Lindi Fletcher and Bartlett each had 3 kills, and Koch had 8 assists.

In the Sectional Tournament March 3, the Lady Mustangs downed Peru Washington, 25-13, 25-15.

“The girls came ready to play,” said Kinney. “They served well, with Erika Koch leading the scoring with 11 points. Emily Bartlett added eight points. They passed the ball well and had many spiking opportunities.”

Fletcher had four kills and Laura Hedden had three. Koch had six assists.
