The Lady Mustangs proved they were up to their undefeated season by capturing the Eureka 3A seventh-grade volleyball regional title Friday.

CJH took Eureka in three games, 18-25, 25-22, 26-24.

“Eureka has a great team,” said coach Sara Kinney. “They hit the ball well and made few mistakes. In fact, we were behind most of the time.

“The girls just do not give up. They keep on fighting and got back into every game.

“In the end, the serving came through. We missed one serve in the third game and that was the difference. We had five different girls with seven or more points. It is a balanced attack.”

Katie Welch led scoring with 11 service points, and Caitlyn Hunt had 9.

Emily Bartlett had 4 kills, and Laura Hedden and Brooke Ratcliff each had 3.

In the semi-final game, CJH faced the only opponent to take them to three games all season — Metamora.

It only took CJH two games this time, winning 25-16, 26-24.

“Metamora has an excellent team,” said Kinney. “They play very well, and, in the end, it was the serving that made the difference.

“Metamora had a difficult time receiving the serves, and that was a big factor.”

Hunt and Welch each had 10 points for the Lady Mustangs. Hunt also had 3 assist, and Lindi Fletcher had 2 kills.

The team finished the regional with a 24-0 record.

CJH defeated Peru Washington in the sectional Monday, 25-13, 25-15, to advance to the Elite Eight at state.

State action begins at 10 a.m. Saturday vs. Glasford Illini Bluffs, 18-5, in Assumption.
