Grey Ghosts continue indoor track season
The Illinois Valley Central boys’ track team continued its indoor season by competing in a seven-team meet in Sterling Thursday. No team scores were kept.
Taking first for IVC were: Terell Williams in the triple jump, 41 1/4 inches, and Matt Huenefeld in the 400 in 56.2.
In second place were: the 4x800 team of Joe Otto, Kyle Kinnary, Alex Olivera and David Weber in 9:04; Ryan Foster in the 55-meter high hurdles in 8.0; and Kinnary in the 400 in 56.3.
Third places went to: Otto in the 800, 2:12; the 4x200 team of Nick Wyzgowski, Wes Wayman, Williams and Foster, in 1:39.9; the 4x400 team of Otto, Kinnary, Huenefeld and Kolbe Weller in 3:50; and Danny Rufus in the shot put, 44-6.
Taking fourth were: Weller in the 400, 57.0, and Foster in the triple jump, 38-2.
Fifth-place winner was Wyzgowski in the 200 in 24.9.
“We did a nice job of competing in this meet,” said coach Mike Themas.
“Terell Williams began the season where he left off in the triple jump. He is going to be one of the better jumpers in this area. His goal is to medal at the state meet.
“Ryan Foster had a great time in the 55m HH, and he hit three hurdles. Ryan also has the potential to medal at the state meet.
“I thought Matt Huenefeld, Kyle Kinnary, Kolbe Weller, Danny Rufus and John Gilomen all had good meets.
“Danny just came out from basketball and hasn’t had time to practice the shot. He also has the potential to do real well in that event this year.”
