PEORIA — October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and an upcoming event hosted by Susan G. Komen Memorial will celebrate survivors and raise awareness and donations for breast cancer research and treatment.

The Promise Run & Relay is at 7:30 a.m. Saturday in downtown Peoria.

Events like the Promise Run raise funds but also promote health and wellness. Gina Morss-Fischer, marketing and development director for Susan G. Komen Memorial, said. “We know that the more active and healthy lifestyle that we keep, the more we can reduce our risk of breast cancer. That’s something that we can’t talk about enough. I’m proud that so many of our events that raise dollars for this mighty mission also help keep people healthy and that’s pretty cool.”

Morss-Fischer said the organization also hosts bowling and golf events.

The Promise Run and Relay offers options to include people of many fitness levels. Entrants can choose an individual half marathon (13.1 miles), a 2-person relay (6.5 miles each), and a 1-mile walk
