The merger of First National Bank of Chillicothe into Better Banks became official at 5 p.m. Aug. 15.

“We are delighted to have Better Banks Chillicothe as the newest member of our family,” said Better Banks Chairman and CEO Steve E. Backlund in a press release.

“We pride ourselves on our unparalleled levels of service and dedication to our communities, and we are proud to bring that legacy to the Chillicothe community. We will play an important role in helping to make the community of Chillicothe even better with our involvement.”

Jeff Livengood has joined the bank as a vice president in the Chillicothe location.

The addition of Better Banks Chillicothe into the Better Banks family will enhance its ability to serve the Chillicothe community with a more extensive line of loan and deposit products.

Livengood, a past recipient of a 40 Leaders Under 40 award, currently serves on the Board of TCRC Inc., and has previously served on the boards of Pekin Main Street, American Cancer Society, Pekin Rotary and Pekin Marigold Festival.

“We are very pleased to have Jeff join our team; his extensive banking background will be an asset to our Chillicothe location and to our organization as a whole,” said President Bob Mowrer Jr.

First National Bank evolved from the Truitt-Matthews Banking Co., which included names such as Henry Truitt, P.T. Matthews and Harvey Holman.

After almost 150 years of being established, the Truitt family still was involved with the bank.

Better Banks is also locally owned and operated and has been serving the Peoria area for more than 115 years; priding itself on strong customer service and a conservative banking philosophy.

Better Banks provides a broad range of consumer and corporate banking services to customers through seven financial centers in central Illinois. Better Banks has branches in Peoria, Dunlap, Bartonville, Chillicothe, Wyoming, Astoria and online.
