Halloween activities Friday around Chillicothe
While it may seem a little early with Halloween just over a week away, Chillicothe residents gear up for the spooky holiday with the annual activities of Merchants’ Trick or Treat and Pearce Community Center’s Spooktacular, traditionally on the Friday before Halloween.
Children should wear their Halloween costumes and hit the streets in search of candy, given out by Chillicothe businesses. Those participating in the event are featured on the Chillicothe Chamber of Commerce’s flier, which lists the businesses. That flier can also be found at Beck’s, Chillicothe Public Library, Pearce, Happy Thought Coffee and Casey’s, the chamber’s Facebook or see the advertisement on Page A9 of the Chillicothe Times-Bulletin. Last year it is estimated about 800 children trick or treated, according to chamber facilitator Patty Pierson. That was an increase over the estimate from the previous year of 600 children. The businesses each pay for their own candy. Residents without little ones should note that children will be running around the area in their costumes, and while the downtown will be blocked off, children could dart in between cars in parking lots. Chamber helpers will also pass out fliers for the next event, the Santa Claus parade, including the coloring contest.
Once children have stopped by as many businesses as they can, Pearce Community Center is hosting its annual Spooktacular from 4-6:30 p.m. Lots of games are available for the little ones, as well as entertainment. The costume contest begins earlier this year at 5 p.m. Dinner is available for both children and adults. Admission is free, but both dinner and game tickets will be sold at the door. From 7-9 p.m. that evening, a Halloween Costume Dance & Monster Mash will be featured for students in fourth through sixth grades. Admission is $5. Concessions will be sold and chaperones are provided. Other Halloween activities, including a haunted house, are planned.
