I-74 traffic to be shifted
The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that eastbound and westbound I-74 traffic will be shifted to the newly constructed lanes from Jackson Street to just east of Morton Avenue the evening of Friday, Oct. 11.
The traffic shift is necessary to allow for reconstruction of eastbound and westbound lanes of I-74. Traffic will remain in this configuration until late November.
The following lane closures will be necessary to facilitate the traffic stage change:
• EB I-74 left lane and WB I-74 left lane
• 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 to 6:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11
• 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12
These lane closures are likely to result in significant traffic back-ups and travel delays.
The overall project is the complete reconstruction of I-74 from Pleasant Hill Road to Morton Avenue in Tazewell County, including construction of additional through lanes on I-74; reconstruction of the I-155 interchange into a new configuration; ramp improvements at the Morton Avenue interchange; removal of eight existing structures on I-74 with replacement of six of those structures; pavement removal and replacement; installation of highway lighting; and, installation of roadway drainage. The project is expected to be completed in 2015.
