The Peoria Park District is introducing two new programs in their “50 Rock” series— classes, programs and events designed to meet the needs of active adults 50 plus.

“50 Rock” Reader’s Theatre

Exciting storytelling and bringing characters to life is what makes Reader’s Theatre fun for the actors as well as the audience. Come get a taste of what this group is all about in our introductory session, which will include foundational acting skills in voice/diction and character creation as well as challenging opportunities for more experienced actors. This five-week session will be held at Owens Center on Tuesdays, 10:15-11:15 a.m., beginning Oct. 16.

The session will conclude with a performance for friends, family and the community on Nov. 13. Come join us to meet new friends, have a lot of fun and discover your inner actor. New shows with additional performance opportunities will be available Jan. 1.

“50 Rock” Entertainers

Love to sing? Then the “50 Rock” Entertainers group is right for you! This Glee-style (swing choir) ensemble will come together to sing, move to classic holiday favorites, and spread a little holiday cheer this season! The five-week session will be held at Owens Center on Tuesdays, 8-9 a.m., from Oct. 16 through Nov. 13. The group will perform for friends, family and the community at the end of the session.

These exciting new “50 Rock” programs will be directed by Kelleen Purdin. Kelleen is new to the Peoria area but not to the stage, with over 30 years’ experience in teaching, performing, choreography and directing—from the stages of Disney to New York City. She has a Master’s degree in Arts Education and is a strong advocate for the Arts and for Arts Education for all ages.

Both of these programs will be held at Owens Center, 1019 W. Lake Ave. The fee to participate is only $20 per cast member per program. To register for either session or for more details, contact Mature Adults 50+ coordinator Gloria Phelps at 681-2859 or
