Community members are making plans to assist the owner of a landmark in Rome.

Bill "Bongo" Fleming is undergoing treatment for prostate cancer and also suffered a stroke. His medical care has drained both his strength and resources, according to a news release.

Fleming has given his time and money to many causes down through the years, many times with pizzas from his business, Blarney Castle. The activities included fundraisers for the community, IVC District 321 schools, individuals and youth activities. He never said no to any individual or group requesting his help, according to the news release.

A committee is raising funds for him and a benefit, named Bongofest, will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 13 at the Peoria Casting Club.

The benefit includes food, music, silent auction, live auction, bags tournament, raffles and children's games.

Those who want to make a monetary donation may send them for the account of Bill "Bongo" Fleming, South Side Bank, 917 N. Fourth St., Chillicothe, IL 61523.

Auction items are needed. Residents should call Michelle Kerr at 648-6326 for pick up.
