Illinois Valley Central District 321 is being recognized for giving families a good value for their school year.

Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak revealed to the school board at its Oct. 9 meeting that IVC was a recipient of the 2012 Bright Star Award from SchoolSearch, an education research and consulting firm.

The award honors districts that boast test scores in the top third of the state, while also keeping spending costs per student in the bottom fourth of the state.

Polyak said IVC was one of 85 districts chosen out of a total of 868 districts in Illinois to receive the designation.

“It means we give great education at a great price. It’s a nice honor to get again,” Polyak said.

In other action and discussion, the board:

• Approved the hiring of: Thomas Rainey, Rodney Davis and Leslie Baize, bus drivers; Steve Disler, IVC assistant softball coach; Trevor Griffin, IVC assistant girls’ soccer coach; and David Beck and David Lauber, IVC assistant wrestling coaches.

• Approved the resignations of: Jerry Myers, grounds maintenance for the district; and Elizabeth Bonifas, RtI aide at Mossville School.

• Approved the release of closed session minutes from July 2011 through June 2012.

• Heard a report from the facilities and transportation committee about the Mossville School renovation project.

Board member Steve Nalley said the committee had a short meeting that focused on architect fees and costs.

If the project is put out for bids by the end of the year, construction could start in early 2013.
