District realignment discussions continue for public comment

The Illinois Valley Central District Board of Education and administrators would like to add public comment to their discussion of the future possibility of realignment of the district.

Public forums have been planned to follow three IVC District Board of Education meetings. The first one was Nov. 8, with the other two Nov. 22 and Dec. 20. The forums begin at 7:30 p.m. each night and will be held in the Illinois Valley Central High School library.

The district realignment scenario being discussed would keep pre-kindergarten – third grades and high school students at their current schools, but would place all fourth-and fifth-grade students at Mossville School and all sixth-through eighth-grade students at Chillicothe Junior High School.

The move would allow more opportunities for teacher collaboration at grade levels, more diverse curricular offerings, and additional gifted and enrichment programs. The addition of sports such as softball, soccer and wrestling are also possibilities with the proposed restructuring.

The proposed realignment grew from suggestions made during the strategic planning process. A subcommittee of the IVC Strategic Planning Team worked with the administration to prepare a presentation for the IVC Board of Education.

The board asked that it be presented to the district’s teachers for comment. Since receiving teacher comments and suggestions, the time has come for public input. The forums will feature the same presentation shared with the school board and the district teachers.

The school district has created a distinct email address at feedback@ivcschools.com for parents and community members to provide their thoughts and input.

Any specific questions can be directed to Superintendent Nick Polyak at 274-5418 or npolyak@ivcschools.com.
