Chillicothe Elementary Center and Junior High looks like it is ready for basketball season.

Classroom doors were decked out in everything red for the first home game of the girls basketball team. The team will play the Spoon River Valley Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

If the school is any indication, the Lady Mustangs should have lots of support. The Athletic Boosters also will have “buy one popcorn, get one popcorn free” that evening.

“We have our stage repaired, and our band is going to play for the first time in years,” said CEC Principal Todd Dugan. “Also, we have new gym mats, banners, chairs and scoring table. Our gym looks really sharp now.”

Ellie Peterson’s sixth-grade class won the decorating contest with its construction-paper jersey on the door and the paper Mustangs in the display case. Her students won free tickets to the game.
