While the month of May will have high school graduation on the minds of high school seniors, it is the time for high school juniors to begin the process of selecting a college.

To that end, the Illinois Valley Central High School Guidance Department has scheduled a night for IVC juniors and their families to learn about the college selection process.

At 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, in the IVC High School library, guidance counselors will discuss, college selection, admissions criteria, applications procedures, comparing colleges, campus visits, comparing costs and general financial aid questions.

“The college application process can be overwhelming to families who are experiencing it for the first time. For many, paper applications have been replaced with on-line text. Scholarships are found on search engines.

“Even with all of the information available, how does a student decide which college or university he or she should apply to and how many applications should be sent? The IVCHS guidance department will host this event to answer questions 11th grade students and their families may have,” said IVC guidance counselor Dave Lawson.

Information about when to apply, who to talk to about the application process and scholarships will also be presented according to Lawson, who noted that information of how the high school guidance office can help is also available.

“We encourage all 11th grade students and their families to attend,” said Lawson. For more information about College Night, call the IVC Guidance Department at 274-5481.
