South School students ask the audience to stand and sing, “If You’re Happy and You Know It” along with them. The second and third graders’ concert filled the IVC High School gymnasium with family and friends attending South School’s first Spring Concert performed by the second and third grades.

Second and third-grade students from South School turned the Illinois Valley Central High School gymnasium into a sea of spring green April 13 at the first South School Spring Concert.

“Music Goes with Anything!” was the theme of the concert which featured nine musical numbers. Between songs students came to the microphone to explain why music goes with anything.

Songs expressing patriotism, learning, instrumental music and happiness were a part of the evening.

“I am so proud of all the kids,” South School music director Kami Griesbaum said. “All of the songs had the music which can go with anything theme.  I asked the students if they would be willing to give the time and learn nine songs and they were very enthusiastic about all the music.

“We started working on the music in February and the speaking parts in March. This past week we had group rehearsal every morning to pull it all together and I think they did a phenomenal job!”

The concert concluded with an audience sing-a-long, “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”
