Strategic planning begins today

Updates and forms were on the agenda for the Oct. 12 Illinois Valley Central District 321 school board meeting.

Short and sweet, the board discussed the strategic planning group, which will have its first meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight.

“We currently have 42 members on this team. It is comprised of students, parents, teachers, administrators, board members and community members,” said Superintendent Dr. Nick Polyak.

“It’s a very diverse group. We’re excited to get going.”

The board also approved a library grant application.

“The state of Illinois offers a grant to purchase new books and materials for libraries. Last year’s allotment was 71 cents per student. We were told we would receive a little over $1,600 and to this date we have not received last year’s money yet. So, that’s still sitting in a pile of unpaid bills from the state,” Polyak said.

“We’ll apply for this year’s. We were told we would get a maximum of 75 cents for students this year.”

The approval allows high school librarian Marilyn Stickling to fill out the application.

Illinois Valley Central High School is still holding the orders from last year.

Polyak said as soon as the money comes in they will purchase the new materials.

In other action and discussion, the board:

• switched the locations of the next two school board meetings.

The next board meeting Oct. 26 was scheduled to be at Mossville Junior High, but due to a chorus concert, will be at the high school.

The Nov. 9 meeting will be at Mossville instead.

• and approved personnel contracts for Jason Talley for the district computer technology specialist, Justin Coffey for Mossville Junior High’s boys’ assistant basketball coach, and Randy Stoeker for Mossville’s assistant volleyball coach.

The next school board meeting is at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the high school library.
