Dr. Dave Kinney announced his resignation as superintendent of Illinois Valley Central School District 321 at tonight's school board meeting.

Kinney, who read his own resignation letter at the conclusion of the meeting, said he will retire in July 2009 after 35 years in the IVC school district and four years as superintendent.

“It isn’t often that a person can have a career with the satisfaction I’ve gained from working with and for our kids, this staff and our community,” Kinney said in the letter.

Kinney said there is still much to do at IVC in his remaining 10 months, including improved curriculum renewal, improved staff development opportunities for teachers, improving the science facilities, moving forward with remodeling plans for Mossville Grade School and

Chillicothe Elementary Center and the expansion of South School.

“It is my hope and desire to continue to serve in some way after that point [July retirement], and

I’m sure that those opportunities will present themselves,” the letter went on to say.

The IVC board members reluctantly approved his resignation.

“Obviously we made the right decision as a board to bring you on as superintendent because the district is in better condition after you joined,” board member Mike Denzer said.

“It won’t be the same without you,” he added.

Board member Jim Hollenback echoed Denzer’s sentiments.

“I accept the resignation with regret, but after seeing the presentations tonight on student progress, we definitely got more bang for our buck with you,” Hollenback said.

Kinney began with the district as the Mossville Grade School band director.
