Area residents are invited to see what the Chillicothe area volunteer firemen do during an open house Saturday.

The members of the Chillicothe and Chillicothe Community fire departments are hosting an open house from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at Fire Station No. 1, 217 W. Chestnut St.

The Chillicothe Fire Department has served Chillicothe for 90 years and the Chillicothe Community Fire Department has served rural Chillicothe, Rome and Mossville for 60 years.

The firemen are planning an afternoon of food, fun, entertainment, gifts for children, demonstrations and education at an open house specifically for the public.

Three special demonstrations will be as follows:

• Noon: auto extrication.

• 1 p.m.: fire extinguisher.

• 2 p.m.: fire engine operations.

Residents may join the firemen for a few minutes or a few hours at the open house, which concludes Fire Prevention Week.
