Divers and emergency personnel pose after doing their work on the Chillicothe riverfront as a truck was pulled out of the Illinois River.

A male in his late teens told Chillicothe police his accelerator stuck on his truck as he headed to the Chillicothe riverfront Thursday evening, and the only thing for him to do was to bail out, according to acting Chillicothe Police Chief Rich Mark. He refused medical treatment for his scrapes.

Since Friday was a holiday (Veterans Day) and no one’s safety was in danger, the truck was not pulled out of the Illinois River until early Saturday afternoon. Peoria County ESDA divers located the truck in about 25 feet of water near the shore. The Coast Guard also assisted in the efforts.
