A Chillicothe woman has been sentenced to 180 days in jail and four years of probation by Tazewell County Judge Richard Grawey after pleading guilty to stealing money from an East Peoria water company.

Lori J. Demanes, 54, of 513 Stillwater Drive, Chillicothe, was sentenced Friday, the same day she pleaded guilty to theft of not less than $10,000 and not more than $100,000, a Class 2 felony.

Demanes will not serve the jail term if she pays $20,165 in fines, court costs and restitution by April 8, 2014. She owes $17,996 in restitution.

According to court records, Demanes stole $81,460 between 2005 and 2009 from Valley View Knolls Water Co. She served as secretary and treasurer of the company. Authorities first learned of the theft in November, when a company official told police that Demanes was taking money from the company without authorization.

Valley View Knolls serves about 230 customers in the area of Avondale Road and East Oakwood Road and is owned by the residents it serves.
