A Goodwill donation center will be opening near Dunlap to allow residents easier access to donate.

The center is coming to the Prairie Lakes Crossing Shopping Center, at 9915 N. Knoxville, Peoria, and will have a ribbon cutting ceremony at 9 a.m. Friday.

“We wanted to make donating to Goodwill as easy as possible for the people of the northern Peoria and Dunlap areas,” says Jim Lynch, Goodwill’s director of development. “Donations are the life-blood of our organization. Without the incredible generosity of the people of Peoria and central Illinois, we wouldn’t be able to fund the free programs that we offer to help people improve their lives.”

From Friday until Sunday, there will be giveaways to the first 150 donors.

In addition, donors will have chances to win prizes during the grand opening weekend.

“We currently have stores that accept donations on Pioneer Parkway and War Memorial in Peoria. We also have a donation center at the intersection of Sheridan and Lake. Considering the increase in the population of northern Peoria, this was the next logical location for a Goodwill donation center,” said Patty Fuchs, president and CEO of Goodwill of Central Illinois.

The center is currently open, with hours of 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
