Dunlap cross country teams advance to State
The Dunlap cross country teams continued their strong postseason Saturday by advancing both teams to the State meet.
This is the first time both teams have advanced since being in Class AA, and the second time overall.
The girls team, which finished in fourth overall, was led by Leah Brooks, who finished third in 17 minutes, 38 seconds.
“I was really nervous going into this because our goal all season was to get the team there, and I didn’t want to settle for just me going so my strategy was to just keep picking them off to get the team there and do my part,” Brooks said.
Washington senior Julia Williams won the race in 17:29.
Ashley Verville took 14th for the team in 18:15, while Abigail Jockisch took 33rd in 19:06.
Rounding out the finishers for the girls were Chloe Gunn in 38th place in 19:16 and Danielle Snarr in 41st place in 19:20.
On the boys side, Zachary Plank took 10th overall in 15:15, helping the Eagles secure fourth-place to advance to State.
Tyler Rasso, from East Moline, won the meet in 14:48.
Everett Lepp (14th) and Matthew Weber (21st) finished in 15:29 and 15:34, respectively.
Noah Neace and Anthony Holshouser also finished a spot apart, in 60th and 61st, in 16:17 and 16:18.
“I don’t even know what to say,” coach Joe Wenskus said. “It was a good day overall.”
