Dunlap volleyball wins two at tourney

The Dunlap volleyball team walked away with a pair of wins at the Centennial Tournament at Champaign on Sept. 3.

The Eagles opened up the tourney with a 25-18, 25-4 loss to Lockport.

Both Danielle Peterson and Jamie Nichting had four digs, with Nichting also getting an ace. Brooke Langan had five kills, and Elizabeth Finerty had four assists.

In the second match against Clinton, the girls fared better, winning, 18-25, 27-25, 15-10.

Finerty finished with 26 assist, while Nichting had 13 kills. Peterson led the digs with nine. Erika Barber had three aces, and Jaeden Barlow had a block.

The third match was also a win for the Eagles, beating Danville, 25-21, 22-25, 15-10.

Finerty had 22 assists, and Nichting had 11 kills. Peterson led the team with six digs. Nichting had four aces during the match, with Barlow netting one as well. Both Barlow and Finerty finished with a block.

The short winning streak stopped with a 25-21, 25-17 loss to LaGrange Nazareth.

Peterson had six digs, while Nichting had six kills. Finerty finished with nine digs, and Langan had two aces. Barlow had three stuffs.

In the final match of the day, the Eagles lost a close match to Mahomet-Seymour, 25-20, 25-23.

Finerty had 13 assists, with Nichting ending with 11 kills and an ace. Barber also had two aces. Peterson finished with five digs, while Barlow had a block.

On Sept. 6, the Eagles opened up conference play with a two-set loss at Morton, 25-19, 28-26.

Nichting finished with six kills and an ace, and Barlow had two blocks. Finerty came in with nine assists, and Peterson had two digs.

Morton’s sophomore team also topped Dunlap, 26-24, 25-22, while Dunlap’s freshman team came out victorious, 25-19, 25-18.

The Eagles lost another two set match Thursday against Washington, 25-17, 25-16.

Barlow had six kills and two blocks, while Langan finished with two aces. Finerty had five assists.

Washington also won at the sophomore (25-17, 25-22) and freshman (25-18, 24-26, 15-6) levels.
