Dunlap boys golf takes third at invitational

Dunlap’s boys golf team had a strong outing Aug. 27 at the Monmouth-Roseville Invitational.

The tournament, which was played at the par 71 Gibson Woods, saw the Eagles take home a third-place trophy with a 319 stroke total. The team beat Mid-Illini conference rival Morton by a stroke.

Leading the way for the team was Jake Schneider, who finished in fourth overall with a 74. Matt Lavery took seventh with a 76. He also received the Sophomore Medalist Award.

Also shooting for the Eagles was Jason Meyer, who earned an 83, and Joe White, who got an 86.

Two days later, Dunlap beat Peoria Christian on Donovan Golf Course by 15 strokes, 158-173.

Playing the front nine, Lavery and Jack Wilkins hit a two-over par 38, while Schneider finished with a 39. Meyer rounded out the group with a 43.

Brandon Scroggins was a medalist, shooting a 40.

Dunlap’s JV also picked up a victory, 174-199.

On Aug. 30, the boys lost their first meet at Metamora Fields against Metamora, 154-163.

Schneider once again led the team with a 35 on the front nine, the best score of the day. Lavery shot a 42, and Wilkins and Meyers both earned a 43.

The JV team came away with a victory, 168-172.

On Wednesday, the boys picked up another victory against Illinois Valley Central, 156-169.

Leading the way was a meet-high 36 from Schneider at Arrowhead Golf Course.

Lavery and Wilkins tied at 39, while Meyer rounded out the team with a 42.

The JV team also won, 180-225.

The Eagles also picked up a win at the quad-team meet at Oak Run Thursday with a low score of 145.

Schneider led the team with a 3-under par 33, with Lavery shooting a 1-under 35. Wilkins finished with 37, and Nick Colombo shot a 40.
