Volunteers collect trash around town

Springs have sprung: Jacob Dunbar gathers trash to put in the garbage containers Saturday during the Cassie Dunbar eighth annual Illinois River Sweep.

Illinois River Sweep participants normally comb the banks of the river for trash. With high water this spring, the group looked for trash around the town. Normally the event is held in the fall, but due to many activities in the fall, sweep coordinator Ron Dunbar said he thought the event would be better in the spring. With unfavorable weather conditions set for the original date of April 12, the group ended up finding trash Saturday.
