Water worry: Chillicothe Public Works Department workers fixed a broken water main Monday at the corner of Fourth and Walnut streets.

Chillicothe Public Works Department workers fixed a broken water main Monday at the corner of Fourth and Walnut streets.

CPWD superintendent Sid Crabel said Jake Jackson and Josh Cooper, constantly barraged by water spray, managed to fix the broken 4-inch main without shutting it down, thus saving the issuing of a boil order and inconvenience to businesses in the area. Crabel said he notified businesses they might have to shut off the water.

Walker Excavating cut the hole in the pavement, saving time also.

Crabel said he was unaware the cast-iron line even existed until Saturday, when he received a call from police chief Steve Maurer, who noticed water in the area. The sun then dried the water, but it came back.

The main was broken completely around.
