The Chillicothe Public Library will host a day of puppet shows and a class Thursday.

The Eulenspiegel Puppet Theatre will stop by Chillicothe as part of its one-month long tour across Iowa and Illinois.

Catherine Barnett, young adult librarian at the Chillicothe Library, said they saw the

Eulenspiegel group perform in January at a summer reading performer showcase in Peoria.

“They were one of the performers that we saw there and it was enchanting so we decided to have them come,” Barnett said.

Eulenspiegel has been performing since 1974 and was founded by Monica Leo and is now the lead puppeteer managing director of the group, according to their website.

The first showing will be at 10:30 a.m. in the library.

“Each of the performances feature hand made marionettes and (Leo) also makes her own sets and decorates them,” Barnett said.

Leo will be the puppeteer for the performances at the library.

The Snow Queen, which will be performed first, is the basis for the 2014 Disney movie “Frozen.”

The second showing will be at 1:30 p.m. when In the Mirror: Three Tales from Asia will be performed. In the Mirror  contains tales from Japan and Turkey.

At 6 p.m., there will be a workshop for young adults, in grades 6-12.

Barnett said the library will be requiring tickets for the shows due to an expected large audience but there will be no cost.

Those interested can call 274-2719 to reserve tickets or stop by the library for pick up.

“I know a lot of people have been picking them up and who can resist puppets. They’re just such amazing creations,” Barnett said.

“I think that people are excited for it and it should be a really neat show.”
