Picket Fence's Fall Festival this weekend

Marianne Gillespie

Three event highlights:

1. Many fundraisers will be offered at Picket Fence during the fourth annual Fall Festival. Rescue 33 will offer food items in a food tent to raise money for the ambulance squad. The IVC chorale team will offer sweet treats and hot chocolate. The IVC Key Club offers “Take a whack at hunger,” which gives residents three chances to smack a car with a sledgehammer for $1.

2. The scarecrows are one of the constants each year during the event. School classrooms are invited to create a scarecrow and drop it off at the business. Those attending the festival can then vote with their pennies (or dollars) for the one they want to win. All the money stays with each classroom. The classroom which wins overall will ride on Picket Fence’s IVC Homecoming float and everyone will be able to see their scarecrow.

3. Art vendors also will be on site. For a list of them, see the business’ website. Residents can also make their own art through coloring contests, pumpkin carvings and even throw some clay.

Why you should attend

“It’s all about family fun,” said Picket Fence co-owner Stephanie Farris.
