PEORIA — A day after they had 21 runs hung on them in a loss to Quad Cities, the Chiefs scored eight runs in the sixth inning and cruised to an 8-0 victory over the River Bandits in a Midwest League game at Dozer Park.

Colin Schmid earned the victory with six shutout innings, allowing only three hits and striking out three in his Peoria debut.

Peoria opened the scoring when Delvin Perez singled, Nolan Gorman was hit by a pitch and Ivan Herrera walked with no outs. A Brady Whalen single scores Perez and Gorman.

After Malcom Nunez walked, Herrera stole home and Brandon Riley walked to load the bases again. Jhon Torres got his first hit as a Chief to drive in Whalen. Wadye Ynfante's sacrifice fly brought in Nunez and Perez walked for the second time in the inning and Gorman singled to score Riley and Torres.

Herrera's single drove in Perez to cap the scoring as Peoria sent 13 batters to the plate in the inning.

The shutout, preserved by Michael Brettell and Edgar Escobar, gives the Chiefs' pitching staff the league lead with eight shutouts, two of those coming on this nine-game homestand.
