Don Wendell Hoskins

Don Wendell (Wendy) Hoskins, 86, passed away on October 13, 2021, at OSF Owens Hospice, Peoria. Wendy was born April 1, 1935 to Henry E. and Elizabeth (Babington) Hoskins in Sparland, IL. He is survived by two sons, Brian {Ingrid} of Justin, Texas and Cory of Henry, and two grandsons, Eric and Brian of Justin, Texas, a sister, Kaye (Bill) Schwiderski of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by two sons, Mark and Eric, his parents and brothers Thomas C., Kevin, and Gerald (Dutch) Hoskins. He is also survived by a special niece Janine Hoskins and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wendy was in business at the Club LaCon and the 119 Club in Lacon and managed the Toluca Tall Oaks Country Club for several years. Later he was a meat cutter at the IGA store in Toluca and assisted with catering for Mona's and Capponi's restaurants in Toluca.

He was an avid fan and supporter of all sports and traveled often to watch young people participate in sports. You could find him several nights a week attending high school basketball games. In 2006 he was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Assn. Hall of Fame Friend of Basketball. He also enjoyed golf and was a member of the Lacon Country Club. He played softball in Central Illinois and pitched fast pitch until he was 52 years old. In his senior years he coached the girls golf team at Midland High School.

He served with the U.S. Air Force spending time in Alaska and Arizona.

Wendy had many friends and was too generous, always buying someone a meal or attending and donating at numerous benefits to those with illness or problems. He was 77 years old before becoming a grandfather but made up for it by traveling often to Texas to see his grandsons.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of his life will be held in Spring 2022.
