Monday isn’t usually much fun.
It certainly wasn’t for the Pekin baseball team, which lost 2-0 to Mid-Illini Conference opponent Limestone in the Dragons’ final home game of the season at Harry Anderson Field.
Rockets ace Mike Dunne slammed the door on Pekin’s offense, allowing only three hits while striking out 13 and not walking a batter.
If that wasn’t bad enough, Pekin coach Larry Davis’ nephew knocked in what proved to the winning run in the third inning.
Kaden Davis’ RBI double broke a scoreless tie after the Dragons kept the inning alive by not turning a double play quickly enough.
“Yep, Kaden is my brother’s kid,” Davis said.
Bailey Antonio pitched a great game for Pekin (12-8, 7-6). He allowed only six hits, walked two and struck out three. The Rockets (16-8, 9-3) scored their second run in the sixth inning.
The Dragons will wrap Mid-Illini play Wednesday at Limestone.
They’ll finish their regular-season schedule Friday at Bloomington. It will be a makeup from an April 2 postponement.
