CHILLICOTHE — It’s the time of year to spread a little Christmas cheer, and there’s no better way to spread it in Chillicothe than by being part of the Community Needs Agency’s (CNA) bell ringing to raise money for its annual Christmas dinner basket distribution.  Volunteers are needed to ring bells next to a CNA kettle at the entrance to the Chillicothe Kroger store.  Bell ringing officially starts November 17 and runs each day through Christmas Eve.

“This is a great way to support Community Needs Agency and by doing so, help those in need in our area,” said Nicole Jenkins, CNA bell ringer coordinator.  “Get a friend or family member to ring a bell with you . . . it’s really fun.  You not only help CNA, you might be surprised by the number of familiar faces you see coming and going at Kroger.  Bell ringers always tell me they enjoy doing it.”

Volunteers normally ring a bell for an hour or longer, if they chose.  Those interested in volunteering to ring a bell should call Nicole at 309-264-2220 or go to Community Needs Agency facebook page for the link to sign up online through SignUpGenius.

Bell ringing at the Chillicothe Kroger store is one way Community Needs raises money for its important work of supporting those in need in its service area, the IVC School District 321.  According to CNA board president Darlene Kumpf, another critical component of the fundraising are the donations that come into the CNA office.

“Those annual donations not only help provide Christmas dinner baskets but they help keep our doors open year-round,” said Kumpf.  “We couldn’t operate without them.”

Those interested in donating to Community Needs Agency can make a check out to CNA and drop it off at the office located at 418 Wilmot St., Chillicothe, IL, or mail it to:  Community Needs Agency, P.O. Box 103, Chillicothe, IL  61523.
