The Federal Correctional Institution in Pekin is back to full operational status following an internal investigation of an incident last Tuesday night at the institution.
FCI Pekin, located at 2600 Second St., is a medium security facility that houses 918 male offenders. Around 6 p.m. on Oct. 16, inmates of FCI Pekin became disruptive, according to a Wednesday, Oct. 24 email from FCI Pekin official Steven Sellers.
"Staff immediately responded and secured the area," Sellers said in the email. "No staff members were injured, (and there were) only minor inmate injuries. The inmate population was returned to their housing units, and the institution was placed on a limited operational status."
Sellers said the public was not in danger at any time.
Sellers did not detail the specifics of the disruption, nor did he say in what way the inmates were injured or how long the investigation lasted or when the institution returned to full operational status.
The Pekin Daily Times will update with more information if and when it becomes available.
