Chillicothe Public Library’s “Year of Beer” program series continues to draw crowds to learn about a wide range of beer-related topics. Presenters from White Oak Brewery, Tannins & Hops, and Fox Pub have engaged audiences with programs on the History of American Beer, Beer for Wine Drinkers (and vice versa), and Craft Beer in Illinois.
For the second half of 2018, the series will tackle a new range of topics. Here’s a look at what’s brewing!
A lot of resources go into making that refreshing mug of beer. How are brewers trying to incorporate sustainable technologies and energy saving methods into their craft? Is there such a thing as green beer (outside of St. Patrick’s Day)? Find out with Brian Buss of Industry Brewing on Tuesday, July 17, at 6 p.m. The program is open to ages 21 and up, and attendees should register by July 15.
In August, it’s back to school – Sour Beer School, that is! On Aug. 23 at 6 p.m., guests will explore the style history and unique flavor profiles of sour beer with Anthony Carapella of DESTIHL Brewery. Please register by Aug. 22.
Lance Shaner of Omega Yeast will be the guest speaker at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, and will discuss the fascinating microorganisms responsible for fermenting your favorite brews. Please register by Sept. 23.
Other fall events are in development, but on December 10 at 6 p.m. Anna Schweig of Big Thorn will present “Beyond Hops: Beer with Alternative Bittering Agents.” Big Thorn, an off-grid farmhouse brewery, grows many different herbs for crafting their unique beers. Registration is requested by Dec. 3.
