Elmer E. “Gene” Davis, 86, of Chillicothe passed away at 2:35 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe.

He was born on Oct. 6, 1926, in Sparland to the late Charles and Ethel (Reay) Davis. He married Helen Jean Lewis Crocker in 1952 in Sparland; she preceded him in death in 1995.

He is survived by his son, Rick (Cindy) Davis, of Chillicothe; step-daughter, Sandra (Darrell) Britton, of Oceola; brother, Allen (Nina) Davis of Chillicothe; sister, Eileen Jason of Lacon; and step-grandchildren, Josh (Katie) Gurnsy; Terry Ryan, Tom (Debbie) Ryan, Cassandra (David) Munoz; Tina Genslinger, Karly Goard and Bebee Ann Crocker.

He was preceded in death by six brothers, four sisters and one stepson.

Gene served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II as a Mess Sergeant. He worked at the Lacon Woolen Mill, for the Rock Island Railroad, as a mine foreman for the Hy-Test Brickyard, and at J.T. Fennell Co., where he retired in 1991.

He was a member of the Chillicothe American Legion, Chillicothe VFW, “NARCOA” the North American Railcar Operators Assosciation, and the Monticello Railroad Museum.

Gene was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be no services.
